UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is the driving force behind Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) becoming the world’s most exciting and fastest growing combat sport. Not everyone wants to get into the Octagon and compete, but at the inclusive UFC GYM® in Nottingham, UK, everyone can benefit from multidisciplinary training that blends martial arts with traditional strength and cardio training.

THE CHALLENGE

As the premier organization in Mixed Martial Arts, the UFC brand attracts professional athletes and afficionados of the sport who want to build their specific skills and conditioning. The challenge for UFC GYM was to go beyond the hardcore image of MMA and create a welcoming fitness space that inspires everyone, regardless of their abilities and objectives. UFC GYM UK management declared its mission as being “to empower the whole family – women, men, and children from ages six and up. We promote an inclusive environment that sets us apart from all other fitness club operators.”

A KNOCKOUT FITNESS ENVIRONMENT

By partnering with Life Fitness, UFC GYM UK has successfully designed and built a championship-standard 1006 SQM multidisciplinary fitness gym that communicates the brand’s main values: fun, inspiration, humility and teamwork.

MIXING IT UP

THE FITNESS OFFERING

UFC GYM meets and exceeds the expectations of MMA competitor and trainees by providing learning spaces for combat sports, including matted areas for martial arts, boxing and wrestling classes, bag racks, and – of course – the UFC’s famous eight-sided MMA cage, The Octagon.

But the focus isn’t just on fighting. UFC GYM offers a variety of fitness facilities, including strength and cardio zones as well as spaces for group classes such as yoga and Pilates.

It serves clients who are diverse in terms of interests and levels of intensity, expertise and experience, using the facility’s unique MMA character to freshen up the exercise experience.

UFC GYM also offers wellbeing and social zones including saunas in every changing room and a café.

STRIKING DESIGNS

THE EQUIPMENT

Equipment from the Life Fitness, Hammer Strength and Indoor Cycling Group (ICG) family of brands plays a prominent role in the gym’s design.

In particular, the gym emphasizes the use of the Hammer Strength logo to complement the UFC logo, as both brands share synergies – and the no. 1 spot in their respective fields. This positioning increases UFC GYM’s sense of community and belonging, while at the same time leveraging both brands’ strong reputations.

Specific design decisions were made to match the UFC GYM aesthetic: black and red equipment gives the facility a modern and powerful look that transmits intensity, strength, willpower, courage, and determination.

After a comprehensive consulting process with Life Fitness, UFC GYM decided to work with a range of equipment that meets its clients’ fitness experience needs.

CARDIO

• Life Fitness equipment covers general cardiovascular training, with some pieces such as SPARC chosen to enhance specific performance training

• This equipment features the ‘C Console’, which provides an intuitive, simple interface for quick start workouts, as well as real-time metrics

• Indoor Cycling Group (ICG) bikes with ICG Connect
